Access Elevator Joins Independence First to Discuss Wisconsin’s Steep Ramp Problem

A ramp should help make a home more accessible. But when it is too steep, it can create a barrier of its own. Join Independence First and members of the Access Elevator, Inc. team for a virtual lunchtime discussion about Wisconsin’s steep ramp problem and the importance of safer home access.

The November Learn & Advocate Lunch Series presentation, “Ski Slopes with Handrails: Wisconsin’s Steep Ramp Problem,” takes place Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Central on Zoom.

Cassandra Potter and Dan Zepp from the Access Elevator team will discuss why many Wisconsin homes have dangerous ramps, how individuals can protect themselves from predatory practices, and how we can advocate for better standards. The conversation will bring attention to an issue that affects everyday access, independence, and community participation.

Independence First’s Learn & Advocate Lunch Series brings people together on the second Thursday of each month to explore current issues in disability rights, accessibility, independent living, and community inclusion. Access Elevator is proud to support this educational conversation and share our team’s experience with home accessibility.

Whether you use a ramp, support someone who does, or want to learn more about accessibility advocacy, we invite you to join the discussion.
