Access Elevator, Inc. was proud to attend the 36th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act Celebration, hosted by Independence First in Milwaukee on Monday, July 27.
The event brought together community members, local leaders, organizations, and advocates who share a commitment to advancing accessibility and protecting the rights of people with disabilities. Guests heard remarks from Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, Equal Rights Commission Chair Tony Snell Rodriguez, and other community leaders who spoke about the importance of accessibility and inclusion throughout Milwaukee.
The celebration also included breakfast, a community resource fair, assistive technology demonstrations, a sensory room, and other accessibility features. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about valuable programs and services provided by Independence First, the Milwaukee Fire Department, the Milwaukee Public Library, the Aging and Disability Resource Center, and other local organizations.
A huge thank-you to Independence First for hosting this meaningful celebration and welcoming community leaders to speak about the continued importance of accessibility in Milwaukee.
Although there will always be more work to do, occasions like this provide an important opportunity to reflect on how far our communities have come since the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law. They also remind us that creating a more accessible and inclusive future requires continued education, advocacy, collaboration, and action.
